Year 4 have had a very busy week back after half term.

In Maths, the children have continued with our addition and subtraction unit.  They have been learning to subtract two 4-digit numbers using column subtraction, counting on a blank number line and by adjusting the numbers to make counting on easier and more efficient.

In English, the children have been looking at using inverted commas in dialogue.  The children revised the rules of using inverted commas and wrote a short dialogue between 3 characters. In RE, we have been looking at symbols, a picture that stands for something else. We understand that some symbols are universal and others are cultural so may not be recognised worldwide.

In Science, they have started our new unit on Electricity and Circuits.  In our first lesson, we were exploring different examples of electrical appliances and classifying them as mains or battery-powered. The children then had to sort statements into whether they were advantages or disadvantages of using mains electricity or batteries.

The School Council have sold poppies this week to the children in the class.  In school we have been talking about Remembrance Day and how it is a day of reflection and remembrance for those who have served in the Armed Forces. It is a time to honour the courage and sacrifice of those that have served.
